TERRESTRIAL HOSPICE "Rübezahl" LP
Terrestrial Hospice comprises two highly skilled multi-instrumentalists and veterans of the ‘90s Polish black metal scene. Skyggen and Inferno’s exceptional songwriting prowess ensures full listener immersion, with tracks that immediately catch the ear while maintaining a multi-layered depth that promises lasting engagement. The four compositions are fuelled by the disciplined fury characteristic of Terrestrial Hospice’s previous works. They uphold the austere fundamentals of black metal, where innovation and uniqueness are core tenets. “Rübezahl” introduces a more sombre dimension, with acoustic interludes lending an epic quality that carries over into the songs. The result is a surreal soundscape where epic grandeur meets icy, metallic distortion, capturing the essence of truly inspired black metal. While clear and discernible, the production shows none of the sterility typical of commercial studios. The guitars maintain their harsh buzz, crucial for achieving the desired rawness. The drums resonate naturally, free from muffling, clipping, or plastic sounds. The bass is assertive and precise, ensuring a strong, clear presence in the mix. Skyggen commented: "The title “Rübezahl” is inspired by ancient folk legends and myths rooted in the pre-Christian past of the region where I grew up. People there would use the name “Rübezahl” (or Liczyrzepa in Polish) to scare children, warning us not to go out at night, lest the Mountain Spirit take us. These memories stay with you forever. This album is a tribute to those tales" “Rübezahl” also represents a longing and a journey through realms that are irretrievably lost, tarnished and mocked by the carriers of deceitful faiths. It expresses contempt for the modern world with its poisonous and false values.
